The Solution
The Diagno device aims to reduce overprescribing and adverse events through a simple, minimally invasive, 50 second test with an instant result. As a platform solution additional panels will be added to the device following initial launch, the current roadmap:

This will allow healthcare professionals to rapidly decide upon the correct pathway and ultimately improve patient outcomes, reduce adverse events, microbial resistance and reduce the cost burden to the NHS.
The AMR Crisis & How Diagno Helps
AMR is a growing global crisis, estimated to have resulted in approximately 5 million deaths in 2019, of which 1.27 million were directly attributed to AMR. It is projected to kill approximately 10 million people per year by 2050. Analysis by the WHO showed that 60% of pathogenic bacteria have developed resistance to commonly prescribed antibiotics, including third-generation beta-lactams. Pathogens such as Klebsiella and Enterobacteriaceae have shown resistance to carbapenems, with a mortality rate of 38-48%. Multi-drug resistant infections are treated by last-line antibiotics such as colistin, yet resistance to colistin has already emerged via the mcr-1 gene. Discovery and clinical approval of new antibiotics is a lengthy process; the WHO estimates it takes 10-15 years for an antibiotic to reach the clinical stage, of which only 1 in 15 will reach patients, and resistance to most new antibiotics is reported within 2-3 years of market entry.

Currently, there are no non-invasive, instant point-of-care tests that allow clinicians to accurately differentiate between bacterial and viral infections at the time of consultation. This gap leads to delays in diagnosis, inappropriate antibiotic treatment, and escalating healthcare costs, with antibiotic resistance estimated to cause 10 million deaths annually by 2050.

By accurately identifying whether an infection is bacterial or viral, Diagno is projected to eliminate approximately 91% of inappropriate antibiotic prescriptions.
